Plain-English summary: MacroPantry stores the food, meals, and profile details you enter so the app can track your kitchen and nutrition. Photos you scan and some of your data are sent to our AI provider to identify food and generate recipes. We don't sell your data. You can delete your account and data at any time. This is beta software, and no system is perfectly secure.

This Privacy Policy explains how Mahir Elbitar ("we", "us", "our") collects, uses, shares, and protects your information when you use MacroPantry (the "App" or "Service"). By using MacroPantry, you agree to this Policy and to our Terms of Service. If you do not agree, please do not use the App.

1. Information We Collect

We collect only what the App needs to work for you:

Account information: your email address, and a password stored in hashed form by our authentication provider (we never see your actual password).
Profile & health-related information (optional): details you choose to enter to calculate nutrition goals, such as age, weight, height, sex, activity level, and calorie/macro targets.
Food & nutrition data: pantry/inventory items, expiration dates, grocery lists, meals you log, and food-waste/savings estimates.
Photos: images you choose to scan (of your fridge/pantry, receipts, or meals), which are sent to our AI provider to identify items and estimate nutrition (see Section 4).
Household/sharing data: if you create or join a shared household, your shared fridge and grocery list become visible to other members. Your goals, logged meals, and profile remain private to you.
Feedback: messages you send through the in-app feedback feature, and the email tied to your account.
Limited usage data: counts of certain actions (e.g., number of scans) used to enforce usage limits and prevent abuse.

2. How We Use Your Information

To provide the App's core features — tracking your pantry, generating recipes, logging nutrition, and reducing food waste.
To calculate your nutrition goals from the profile details you provide.
To operate shared households you choose to join.
To maintain your account, keep the Service secure, enforce usage limits, and prevent fraud or abuse.
To respond to feedback and improve the App.

We do not use your personal data for advertising, and we do not sell your personal data.

3. Consent & Health Information

You provide profile details such as weight and height voluntarily so the App can calculate calorie and macro targets, and by entering them you consent to our processing them for that purpose. MacroPantry is not a medical service, and nothing in the App is medical, dietary, or health advice. Nutrition figures and estimates are approximate. Consult a qualified professional for health decisions. You may withdraw consent by deleting the relevant data or your account.

4. AI Processing

MacroPantry uses a third-party AI provider (currently OpenAI) to power features like photo scanning, the kitchen assistant, and recipe generation. To provide these features, we send relevant data to that provider, which may include:

Photos you scan (fridge, receipt, or meal images);
The names/quantities of items in your pantry and your nutrition goals (as context for recipes and the assistant);
Messages you type to the assistant.

This data is processed to return results to you. We do not send your account password or unrelated personal information. The AI provider processes this data under its own terms and privacy practices, which we do not control.

5. How We Store & Share Your Information

We use trusted service providers ("sub-processors") to run the App:

Supabase — secure database, authentication, and storage of the data you enter.
OpenAI — AI processing as described in Section 4.
Netlify — hosting of the web application.
Recipe/food data providers — used to look up recipes; we send only a search term, not your personal information.

These providers may process data on servers located outside your country (for example, in the United States). We share your information only as needed to operate the Service, to comply with law, to enforce our Terms, or to protect our rights, users, or the public. Household members see only the shared fridge and grocery list, never your private profile, goals, or meals. If we are ever involved in a merger, acquisition, or sale of assets, your information may be transferred as part of that transaction.

6. Data Security

Your data is protected by per-user access controls (row-level security) so that other users cannot access your private data, and it is transmitted over encrypted connections (HTTPS). However, no method of transmission or storage is completely secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security. The App is beta software provided "as is," and you use it at your own risk. Please avoid entering information you would consider highly sensitive. To the extent permitted by law, we are not liable for unauthorized access, disclosure, or loss of data that occurs despite reasonable safeguards.

7. Data Retention & Deletion

We keep your data for as long as your account is active. You can delete individual items in the App at any time. To delete your entire account and associated data, contact us at mahirkhaledelbitar@gmail.com and we will remove it within a reasonable period, except where we must retain certain information to comply with law or resolve disputes.

8. Your Rights

Depending on where you live (for example, under Canada's PIPEDA, the EU/UK GDPR, or California's CCPA), you may have the right to access, correct, delete, or export your personal information, and to withdraw consent. To exercise these rights, contact us at mahirkhaledelbitar@gmail.com. We will respond within the time required by applicable law.

9. Children's Privacy

MacroPantry is not intended for children under 13 (or the minimum age required in your region, such as 16 in parts of the EU). We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided us information, contact us and we will delete it.

10. International Users

By using the App, you understand that your information may be transferred to, stored, and processed in countries other than your own, including the United States, which may have different data-protection laws than your jurisdiction.

11. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy as the App evolves. We will update the "Last updated" date above, and significant changes may be communicated in the App. Continued use after changes means you accept the updated Policy.
